German parliament debates first care reform; broader overhaul planned for next year

The care-insurance contribution for people without children is to rise to 0.9 percent. The income ceiling used to calculate contributions is also set to rise by 300 euros.

For people in care level 1, the relief payment of up to 131 euros a month is to be scrapped.

The German parliament has not yet passed the bill, while an expert commission works on proposals for a comprehensive structural overhaul.
